the things we know best

"The purpose of psychology is to give us a completely different idea of the things we know best." -Paul Valery

I don't know who that guy is, but I liked this quote.

  1. Just a quick wave in this direction.

Valery was a French author, who loved to put his thoughts in notebooks and journals.

And. Yes. Psychology does give us a different point of view of things we know best.

When did psychology change something you had known, and what did it change into?

  2. Thanks, I don't think I've come across his stuff before, I'll check it out. Well, studying different kinds of psychology gives me another method of understanding my own thought processes. In general, people believe they are intimate with their own thoughts, but in reality they often have no idea what is really going on underneath.
